At Fleet we aim to utilise Home Learning in order to embed and secure key skills that we feel need constant practise and ‘over learning’. The children from Y2 upwards have a Home Learning journal in which mental maths objectives and spelling patterns are outlined weekly and fortnightly respectively for the children to practise with their grown-ups at home.
We have presented and discussed a range of games and activities with parents and carers as well as the children in order to provide the children with meaningful ways in which to embed their learning in a way that suits them.
In addition, the children all have reading diaries in which a dialogue between parents/carers, children and teachers can take place, in addition to activities to support reading comprehension.
Many of the homework tasks are also set on the online platform we use, 'Seesaw'. Children have their own individual logins and can access work set as well as submit work to their teachers using this. We also subscribe to maths and reading resources online which the children will be set work on and expect to complete at home each week. Where families have no or limited access to devices to enable them to do this work we ask them to let us know so we can provide them with a device.
Home Learning Projects
Once a term the children from Y2 upwards are given a topic based project to complete over three weeks. This enables the children to build on their interests in a creative way. The children are free to take any aspect of the topic they are learning about and create a project - this can be writing, art, sculpture, cooking, digital - anything at all. They can choose to showcase/present an aspect of their topic they have learnt in class or research an area of the topic in more detail. The projects are set teh week before the half term and the children have that week, the half term week, and the first week back to complete the project. If children need any resources to support the creation of their projects they can borrow from school. When the home learning projects are brought in an exhibition is held in the hall and parents and familiesa re invited after school to come and help to celebrate the fantastic and creative work the children produce.
